At Bailey Care we recognise that illness and surgery can place tremendous strains on the body, so the quality of care received during the recovery process is extremely important. We believe a well-managed recovery reduces the risk of complications and reduces the possibility of needing further treatment or a return to hospital.
Convalescent care focuses on recovery from a debilitating illness. Although no longer ‘ill’, after some illnesses the body needs time to recuperate through a combination of rest, appropriate exercise, and a good diet.
Post-operative care is similar to convalescent care but involves additional care.
An example of post-operative care would be after a hip replacement operation. This is a major surgical procedure, especially in an older person. Although a patient may have been discharged from hospital, they are often not mobile enough to look after themselves in their own home – specialist care at home can result in a quicker, safer recovery.
Bailey Care’s convalescent care at home service can offer the best possible solution to recuperation after a period of illness or following an operation.
Convalescing after an operation usually means a period where support is provided whilst the patient gets stronger and independence is encouraged until they are ready to resume their normal life. Bailey Care can offer a tailored service to meet the needs of each individual Client; the level of care required may well change during the recovery period:
- Low dependency - where Clients are largely self-caring, but need the extra support and reassurance that a Live-In Carer can provide. This might take the form of housework, shopping, preparing meals and companionship
- Medium dependency – might typically include assistance with personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting and mobility, in addition to help around the home
- High dependency – can encompass all the above, but in addition Clients may need assistance with more complex healthcare, such as catheters/stoma care or even PEG feeding
